Well in this particular case there is a bit of an unusual story to tell. It started, following a trip to Costa Rica in Central America during the Green Season, one of my favourite places on the planet. There is so much variety and life there, from the Caribbean coast in the east, up to the central mountain ranges and back down to the Pacific coast in the west. I love photographing and filming my trips, and the images I gather are used to create many of my designs.

After my return, I woke one morning with a particularly vivid dream still burned into my brain where I was following this excitable little cartoon bird character as it zipped around a rainforest canopy. The dream played out just like a 3D cartoon animation, which I suspect came from my work as a 3D artist (one of my other roles in life). I was working on a big 3D modelling project at the time and I suspect it somehow worked itself into my dreams. But in the process I spontaneously created this little Toucan character. It rarely happens this way, but sometimes it does, and I cannot explain it.

I decided to illustrate it the next morning (strike while the iron is hot!), and I based it on the Keel-billed Toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus) with its almost unbelievably coloured rainbow beak, one of the many stunning birds we saw on the trip.

You can find the designs on both men’s t-shirt and women’s t-shirt - I hope you find them as fun as I do.
